CURRICULUM INTENT
At Ryecroft C.E. Middle School pupils are taught in the same timetabled block of double lessons on a termly rotation.
Pupils have 3 units of Art and 3 units of Design & Technology per year, with one unit each year being dedicated to an enrichment unit which will only be repeated once in their four year experience.
The subject is delivered by a dedicated curriculum specialist, who is passionate about developing a centre of excellence for the arts in all of its forms.
Standards and expectations are high and pupils will have an opportunity to take advantage of the widest range of activities of any middle school in the area. It is envisaged that parents with creative children will choose Ryecroft because of the growing reputation of the Art department, which will be built on good, sound measurable impact. The school is currently working towards The Arts Mark at Platinum Level and there is an intention to bolster the classroom provision with Artists in residence schemes, school visits, enhanced days and extra-curricular opportunities.
The creative and visual arts has long provided a road into education for pupils, who find the academic routes less assessable – Art and Design at Ryecroft is an inclusive subject, offering tailored teaching for pupils of all main stream abilities.
